Rising rates pushing up housing demands.
According to Fannie Mae’s June 2013 National Housing Survey, potential homebuyers may enter the home buying market sooner rather than later as more Americans expect mortgage rates and home prices to climb. The share of survey respondents who expect their personal financial situation to improve in the next year rose to 46%--the highest level since June 2010.

Falling foreclosure starts.
RealtyTrac reports that foreclosure filings for the first six months of 2013 were down 19% from the previous six months. Also, June’s foreclosure starts were down 21% from the previous month and down 45% from a year ago—the lowest monthly level since December 2005.

Top five cities to be a chicken.
Urban chicken coops—and their fresh eggs—have become the hottest trends among health-conscious eaters. Real-estate brokerage Redfin has compiled a list of the “Top 5 Cities to Be a Chicken” based on the percentage of homes that have been on the market or sold in the past three months with chicken enclosures mentioned as a feature in the listing description. The top cities are: (1) Portland, OR (2) Ventura, CA (3) San Diego, CA (4) Sacramento, CA (5) Seattle, WA.

Trulia launches “Find an Agent” directory.
Trulia has launched its “Find an Agent” directory, which will help consumers learn about agents’ previous home sales, active listings and recommendations from past clients. Trulia reports that more than 50% of buyers and sellers who search the directory are actively trying to find an agent.
