What is AHS video chat?

American Home Shield video chat connects you with live repair Experts who specialize in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, appliances, and general repair services. Through the AHS Member App, you can show the issue directly to an Expert using your smartphone or tablet, and receive personalized guidance to assess or even fix the issue.

From troubleshooting a leaky faucet to figuring out why your dishwasher won't start, the repair Experts provide real-time help in assessing your issue quickly. Members with select American Home Shield plans can use video chat to help avoid unnecessary service visits and provide extra peace of mind.

American Home Shield Experts are skilled trades professional with over 20 years of industry experience, who specialize in troubleshooting key areas of home maintenance and general repairs:

  • Heating and Cooling Systems (HVAC): With expertise in everything from thermostat issues to airflow problems, our HVAC Experts can help you stay comfortable year-round.
  • Plumbing: From identifying leaks to clearing minor clogs, our plumbing Experts are here to tackle water woes.
  • Electrical: Whether it’s a tripped breaker or a flickering light, electrical Experts offer clear guidance to ensure safety and functionality.
  • Appliances: Dishwasher not draining? Refrigerator not cooling? Appliance Experts can walk you through quick fixes to keep your kitchen running smoothly.


Unlike the AHS Pros who handle in-person repairs, the AHS Experts serve as your first line of defense over video chat. They’re here to help you assess the issue, troubleshoot simple solutions, and determine whether you require a service visit or can solve it on the spot. With an Expert in your pocket, you can even save money avoiding unnecessary service call fees.

Each Expert brings years of hands-on experience, extensive training, and a commitment to customer care.

How do the Experts help?

The Experts behind AHS video chat are here to make homeownership easier by providing clear guidance for common home issues. With their deep expertise across heating and cooling systems, plumbing, electrical, and appliances, they’ll help you understand the situation and determine the next steps— all in real-time.

For example, say your air conditioner isn’t cooling as it should. An HVAC Expert can guide you through steps like checking the thermostat settings, inspecting the air filter, or assessing airflow, helping you pinpoint the issue without waiting for a service visit. If your dishwasher isn’t draining, an appliance Expert might help you check for blockages or clean the filter to restore its functionality quickly.

In some cases, American Home Shield Experts can help you resolve the problem entirely during the video chat. If your covered item can’t be fixed over video chat, you can make a service request for an in-person Pro straight from the app for the cost of your service fee.
